So you’ve decided you want a salt water pool…what’s the next step?  There are a host of options out there.  Some systems are complex while others are DIY (Do It Yourself).  Whether your building a new pool or have an existing pool, the options below are can easily be integrated into your pool design by a pool professional.

Automation with a Salt Chlorination System:  Some salt systems are integrated into you automation and therefore a salt system will cost less when “bundling” instead of having a completely separate system.    Consider the researching the Pentair EasyTouch or IntelliTouch.

Sizing a Salt System:  In a recent pool industry trade rag they were discussing how some pool builders do not size the salt cell properly.  The argument is a pool salt system should be sized based conditions of a specific pool…NOT on the actual size of a pool.  For example, if you pool is 18,000 gallons, many would suggest a salt system that is for 20,000 gallons (Pentair IC-20; 20,000 gallons).  However some experts suggest considering the other variables such as pool size,  bather load, landscaping debris, weather exposure, etc.  If  these variables come into play, you may consider getting a salt cell designed for a larger body of water (i.e. Pentair IC-40; 40,000 gallons) to accommodate all the variables in order to maintain proper chlorine demand.

Different Types of Salt Chlorination Systems w/ Options

Hayward Aqua-Rite-w/ TCell

Hayward Aqua Rite Electronic Chlorine Generators automatically produce pure chlorine every day while the pool is being filtered and distribute it evenly throughout the pool via the return jets. Aqua Rite generators use a low concentration of salt dissolved in the pool water (below the level of taste) to produce up to 1.45 lbs of chlorine daily, enough for all residential pools up to 40,000 gallons. They are also NSF certified and approved for use on commercial and public pools. They easily install on standard filtration systems, both for new construction and on existing pools. Turbo Cells sold separately.

Turbo Cells come in three sizes for in-ground pools: 40,000, 25,000 and 15,000 gallons. The three sizes enable you to right size your salt system for the most efficient and cost-effective chlorination possible.  I highly recommend and only sell the 3 year warranty model.
