Alright so the picture is a little extreme I’ll admit.  This article discusses the advantages of draining your pool and …..leaving your car parked in the driveway.

First lets talk about Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). TDS is the total weight of all soluble matter in the water. All dissolved matter added to pool/spa water contributes to TDS, including salt, bather waste. algaecides, metal and stain control chemicals, clarifiers, de-foamers, enzymes, wind-borne debris, and water balance chemicals. Evaporation removes “pure” water, leaving the dissolved solids behind.

Signs of high levels of TDS can be seen when water looks dull or “tired”. Replacing the water greatly improves the effectiveness of your chemicals you add to your pool or spa.

Would you consider bathing in the same water of your bath tub for 3 or more years?…I hope not! Red Square Pools recommends replacing your pool water every 2-3 years. http://www.redsquarepools.com/id14.html
